Spiced Pumpkin Powder

Warm up this winter with unique treats that enrich your body while building a better tomorrow.

Spiced Pumpkin Powder made from local butternut squash, responsibly sourced spices, and assembled with love and care is a great way to give the gift of a more sustainable future. And it sure is tasty!

This winter, FoodChain is offering a one of a kind product: Spiced Pumpkin Powder that is not just cinnamon and nutmeg. It is made with real butternut squash, grown right here in central Kentucky. We’ve taken squash that is otherwise unmarketable, brought it to our FoodChain kitchen for processing. While most of it gets diced for our project with Feeding Kentucky, what is unusable for dice can be roasted and freeze dried, turning it into this lovely powder. We decided to mix in the warm spices that everyone loves: cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, ginger, and allspice, then make it a little more special with turmeric and black pepper.

Our turmeric comes from Diaspora, Co, a company that promises single-origin spices and a minimum of 2x the premium rate for farmers in India. They work with farmers that grow organically and with techniques that preserve the land and resources into the future. All of our other spices are sourced from Mountain Rose Herbs,  a company that promises to always put people, plants, and planet before profit. All the spices are USDA and Oregon Tilth Certified Organic and Fair for Life Fair Trade Certified. This way, with each serving of our Spiced Pumpkin Powder, you are not only supporting a better food system locally, but also supporting better farming and sourcing practices globally!

Our Spiced Pumpkin Powder is easy to use!

We recommend 1 Tablespoon per serving. Each jar contains about 20 servings. The powder dissolves easily in hot liquids and goes great in coffee, as a latte with steamed milk (our favorite is mixing it with oat milk!), or to spice up some hot chocolate. It also blends perfectly with your morning oatmeal, or mixed in to a cookie recipe to add just a touch of nutrition and a whole lot of fall flavor. There are so many ways to use it! It’s unsweetened so you can add your own favorite sweetener to whatever blend you make. It pairs really well with real maple syrup or agave. Try it with a sprinkle of brown sugar and salt on a fresh batch of popcorn! or add it to your favorite soup recipe and see how it can subtly transform even a savory dish into something so much more warm, inviting, and nourishing.

We will have our Spiced Pumpkin Powder for sale at the West Sixth Black Friday Snake Cake Launch, the Kentucky Native Cafe Christmas Market, as well as through Ouita’s Family of Restaurants.
