Leandra Forman

Co-Executive Director/ Director of Operations

Leandra Forman has been at FoodChain since May of 2015. For the first two years she worked as the farm manager, however she transitioned to overseeing the Processing Kitchen and Food Sector Job Training Program in 2017. Since the pandemic shut down began in March of 2020, she has coordinated with restaurant partners, farmers, food pantries, and meal recipients.  As the daughter of a chef, she grew up speaking the language of food and is so excited to share that with others! She is a graduate of Berea College and a Kentucky native, who can usually be seen cycling every street of downtown Lexington.

Kristin Hughes

Kristin Hughes is a Lexington, Kentucky native who spent 4 years living in Spain before returning to her roots. She graduated from Valparaiso University with a Bachelor’s in Spanish and earned her Master’s of Education from Georgetown College. A product of Maxwell’s Spanish Immersion Program, she worked as a Spanish teacher for 7 years before realizing her passion for teaching food education and joining FoodChain. With a background in education and a deep passion for community food access, Kristin leads initiatives that connect local farmers to schools, families, and institutions.

Kitchen Manager

A line cook at heart with a background in photography and writing, working at FoodChain is the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done (besides being Kara’s partner and mom-ing our eight kids!) The passion here, for not just feeding people, but nourishing and educating them while advocating for justice in every way possible makes all the hard work more than worth it.

As mentioned above, my wife Kara and I have eight whole entire kids. We spend most of our free time attempting to keep up with them, and traveling to beaches every chance we get.

POP Club Coordinator & BUFF Aquaponics Educator

Annika returned to her hometown of Lexington after earning bachelor’s degrees in Environmental Science and Sustainability from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her academic work focused on environmental policy and where she studied the relationship between people, food, and the environment. At FoodChain, she brings experiential education to the classroom, combining her passions for sustainability, community engagement, and equitable food systems. Outside of work, Annika spends her time training for triathlons, solving crossword puzzles, and making music.

Ashley Browning

Development & Fundraising Events Coordinator

Ashley N. Browning is originally from Dayton, Ohio, but has deep Kentucky roots through her educational journey at Kentucky State University, the University of Kentucky, and Union Commonwealth University. With more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and community programs, she is passionate about bringing people together through meaningful initiatives and events. Ashley cares deeply about food access, eliminating food deserts, and connecting people to fresh, healthy food. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, reading, prioritizing self-care, and creating brave spaces where BIPOC women feel empowered to rest, heal, and put themselves first.

Charles Kelly

Delivery Assistant

Charles joined in 2026 and is eager to help empower his hometown with food. He follows in his parents’ footsteps in community action. He is also pleased to be the eldest member of the greatest work team ever assembled; the diversity and work ethic make it so. Charles is a regular customer of the neighborhood grocery store and looks forward to his free daily slushie and bag of popcorn available to all.

Dorcas Lukwesa

Dorcas Lukwesa

Aquaponics Researcher

Dorcas grew up in a farming community in Zambia, where her passion for agriculture first took root. She earned a B.S. in Agricultural Sciences from EARTH University in Costa Rica and a Master’s degree in Horticulture from Auburn University in Alabama, specializing in aquaponics farming systems. Dorcas believes that agricultural research is key to advancing resilient and efficient food systems like aquaponics. This passion led her to join FoodChain. As an Aquaponics Researcher, she is dedicated to empowering future leaders in STEM and values how aquaponics blends science, sustainability, and offers hands-on learning opportunities. Outside of work, Dorcas enjoys hiking, walking trails, fishing, bonfire camping, cooking, and food tours. Her favorite season is fall—especially for its vibrant colors, with yellowish-orange being her favorite—and Lexington happens to be the perfect place for her fall adventures.

Gracie Olivares

Administrative Coordinator

Gracie is a native of Lexington, Kentucky. She graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a Master’s in Public Administration with a graduate certificate in Emergency Management and Disaster Resilience. She also has an undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from Eastern Kentucky University. In her free time she collects Nancy Drew books and loves reading.

James Mastin

James Mastin

Director of Finance

James was raised here, there, and everywhere, from California to Minnesota to Florida to Kentucky.  A Lexington resident of the past 25 years, James worked in hospitality for most of his life, and has an enduring belief in the power of feeding to build and nourish community.  An alumnus of the University of Kentucky, James earned his Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, with minors in international relations and Chinese language and culture. In his leisure time, James likes reading, gardening, rearing fish babies, and is an avid traveller. He loves experiencing the many cultures, cuisines, and scenes the world has to offer.

Laz has worked at FoodChain since 2021 in the kitchen. He enjoys coming up with new recipes for dinner and learning from others. He is an avid bike rider and experiments with different ferments. His motto is “I will survive”.

Maxx Alviar

Maxx hails from the suburbs of Chicago and came to Lexington for college in 2013 and hasn’t left since! He received his undergraduate degree in Hospitality Management and Tourism from the University of Kentucky and is currently pursuing a master’s in Nutriton and Food Systems there as well. He has been working in the restaurant insdustry for over 10 years and wants to use that knowledge to help show people that foood isn’t as complicated as it seems. Any chance to get outside with his family to camp, run, or hike- if it’s outside, he’s in!

Paris grew up in Central Florida and moved to Kentucky in 2001, where she has lived ever since. She brings a unique skill set to FoodChain, with 11 years of experience as a licensed cosmetologist, restaurant experience, work as a dental assistant for an oral surgeon, and experience in Integrated Pest Management at a greenhouse.Her favorite part about working at FoodChain is the fun, chill atmosphere where everyone is always smiling. In her free time, Paris enjoys crafting, cooking, making music, playing piano, gardening, collecting mini items, and playing chess. She’s a proud mom to three teenage boys, as well as her dogs, cats, kittens, and Egg “The Chicken”, and Alphie the FoodChain Beta. Paris describes herself as a flibbertigibbet who speaks gobbledygook.

Chef Anetra, is the visionary behind Woke Junk Food Vegan and a trailblazer in the plant-based culinary scene. From hosting intimate pop-ups to securing a space inside a major university, her journey has redefined vegan comfort food. As an executive chef and advocate for food sustainability, she has been showcased at some of Kentucky’s largest culinary events, alongside nationally and internationally recognized chefs. Passionate about transforming food systems, she believes in making plant-based cuisine both accessible and unforgettable. For Chef Anetra, food isn’t just nourishment—it’s a movement, a story, and a revolution on a plate.

Arynn Rogers is a Lexington, Kentucky native with a passion for food equity and food waste mitigation. She graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor’s in Sustainability and Certification in Food System Sustainability. She enjoys spending her free time reading, gardening, and trying new recipes.

I’m the Head Chef and Co-owner of Alfalfa’s Catering & Food Truck. I’m the Owner & Head Baker of Simply Yours Treat Company! I’m also a Ridgeway Chef! I’ve been in the Culinary world for over 10 plus years. I’ve catered for many colleges & organization around the area, UK, Berea College, EKU, KBFA to name a few. You can catch my good cooking at many different conferences such KYSU Small Limited Resource Conference, or The Kentucky Black Farmers Conference.

I absolutely Love serving & feeding the community in any way possible with Healthy But Hearty Meals. To me food has a way of bringing people together for the greater good!

Ethan isn’t a native to Lexington, but has lived here most of his life. He has a B.S. in Biology from EKU. He has always been interested in fish, crustaceans, molluscs- anything that lives in the water and started keeping fish tanks when he was 12. He loves learning and teaching about anything aquatic. He enjoys working at FoodChain because he is interested in aquaponics and appreciates what FoodChain is doing to further the public’s knowledge of urban agriculture and improved access to fresh, health food!

KJ was born and raised on the West Coast before moving to Lexington in 2024. Before joining FoodChain, they worked in retail, fostered animals, and in wildlife rehabilitation. They’re also CERT certified and never without a first aid kit. KJ loves working at FoodChain because they believe good food is an expression of love, and they enjoy being part of a team that shares that value. Outside of work, they enjoy hiking, gardening, stargazing, identifying wildlife, baking bread, and spending time with their family.

Malik McCalpine

Neighborhood Green Grocery General Manager

Malik is from Lexington, KY. He received his education from Union Commonwealth University, where he double majored in business management and business marketing. He also minored in theatre and played football. Before working at FoodChain, he was the Central Kentucky Field Coordinator for Glean Kentucky and interned with KFTC. His favorite thing about working at FoodChain is the opportunity to help serve his community. He believes it’s an honor to learn so many different things from so many different people. He loves new learning experiences. Malik’s hobbies include acting and writing in short films. He also loves going to the gym and writing poetry. What gets him up every morning is his dog, Echo, and the belief that food security should be a human right.

Born in Nicholasville and raised in Lexington, Michael worked in special education with Fayette County Schools before joining FoodChain and is thrilled to be a part of the team! As an amateur cook and gardener with a Biology degree focused on botany, he’s found FoodChain to be the perfect intersection of his interests and passions since coming aboard in 2023.

Mwibe is originally from Congo and moved to Tanzania before settling in Lexington, KY. She studied at Collège de la Charité, focusing on primary school teaching. She has diverse work experience, including cleaning hospitals and cooking in restaurants. She enjoys working at FoodChain because it allows her to support her family, and she feels deeply supported by the team. In her free time, she loves braiding hair, jumping rope, and baking. She’s proud to be part of the FoodChain community and loves FoodChain!

Shay is from Lexington, Kentucky, and is a proud graduate of Henry Clay High School. She enjoys working at FoodChain because of the genuine love and support that flows through the organization. Known for her calm and steady presence, Shay brings a sense of ease even during the busiest moments at FoodChain. When she’s not working, you can find her spending time with her dog and enjoying quiet moments of relaxation. Her down-to-earth nature and steady demeanor make her a valued member of the team.
