Volunteer with Us!

We love volunteers! They are a vital support for our small team. Our opportunities are a tad reduced right now, but we think you will love the selections!

Mobile Meals

Consistent nutritional security and experience with whole ingredients is transformative. Our Nourish lexington Mobile Meals program not only offers this but it also tackles the complex entanglement of food insecurity and barriers to transportation.

Help us model a more impactful feeding program by dropping off wholesome food for multiple days  at a couple of local homes.

Impact: Typically, our volunteers are responsible for the delivery of about 3,000 meals a month.

Requirements: Sign up more than 24 hours before your shift, have a valid license and car

Rapid Response Squad

Got a flexible or unpredictable schedule? This opportunity is for you. You will get a message about emergency openings for meal delivery and the first person to respond gets the route. This opportunity is made to leverage the unexpected moments when our needs and your schedule align.

Impact: The squad received 12 texts last month and filled 11 of those shifts which stabilizes logistics so we can add more volunteer routes.

Requirements: Car, License

Group Volunteering

Groups with 5-10 people can contact volunteer@foodchainlex.org to coordinate a private volunteering event. Consider adding a private tour to your volunteer outing (for an additional cost). Recurring opportunities can be arranged!

Past projects include: farm cleanup, produce processing, organizing shared spaces, and special skills applications (like engineering assistance)!

Community Outreach

Education and outreach events, such as helping with Science Nights at local schools, are a great way to educate the community about FoodChain’s mission! Volunteers will answer questions about our the work we do, engage in conversations about local food, and explain the role we play in the Lexington community. Hours are flexible. A volunteer orientation session is required. Please email volunteer@foodchainlex.org

Farm to School

If you are passionate about educating students on the benefits of local food, this is a great opportunity for you! Volunteers will assist with school presentations and activities, as well as the expansion of the program in Fayette County schools. Because of you, more students will understand the importance of eating local! If you’re interested in volunteering for this please email education@foodchainlex.org

Special Skills?

Do you have a specialized skill or awesome connection that you want to put to good use? We would love to know! Design, engineering, fundraising, event planning, and organization are all examples of ways you can be involved! To get in touch about any ideas you may have email us at volunteer@foodchainlex.org!
