We love Volunteers!
Trader Joe’s Food Recovery
Come to FoodChain and assist with our food rescue from Trader Joe’s on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We need 2 volunteers each day who don’t mind a mid week workout. This opportunity includes, unloading our Foodchain van, lifting boxes up to 50 pounds each, and sorting the rescued food by likeness. Sign up at the link below.
Saturday Shifts at FoodChain
Help us get a head start on meal prep for the week by volunteering with us on Saturday mornings. You’ll tackle activities like packing Nourish boxes, prepping SNACKS, and even processing. Invite friends and fill an entire shift. Requirements: pull back long hair, wear hat or hair net, closed toed shoes, and appropriate kitchen attire. Sign up at the link below.
Meal Delivery Drivers
Become a beacon of support for individuals and families in need by volunteering to deliver meals. Your dedication helps us provide nutritious meals to those facing food insecurity, delivering not just sustenance, but also a sense of community and care. Requirements: Sign up 24 hours ahead, valid license and car, lift 25 pounds up stairs.
help on our aquaponics farm
Come and get your hands dirty by helping us on our indoor farm! Farm volunteers help harvest plants, transplant seedlings, clean the farm area, and learn all about aquaponics while helping our farm run more efficiently! Requirements: Wear closed toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. MUST SIGN UP 48 HOURS IN ADVANCE.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Groups with 5-10 people can contact our volunteer coordinator to schedule a private volunteering event. Consider adding a private tour to your volunteer outing. Recurring opportunities can be arranged!
Past projects include: farm cleanup, produce processing, organizing shared spaces, and special skills applications (like engineering assistance)!
Education and outreach events, such as helping with Science Nights at local schools, are a great way to educate the community about FoodChain’s mission! Volunteers will answer questions about the work we do, engage in conversations about local food, and explain the role we play in the Lexington community.
Hours are flexible. A volunteer orientation session is required.
Special Skills? More Questions?
